What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils come from plants. They are steam distilled from the roots, stems, leaves, needles, flowers...or cold pressed from the rind of citrus fruit. They are the aromatic properties of the plant; so when you smell a rose, a peppermint leaf or a pine tree, you are actually experiencing the essential oil of that plant.
The essential oil is what the plant uses to ward off predators, illness and heal from injury. They are a critical part of the plant's immune system. Since our physical makeup is based on the same carbon-based molecules, we can use these same powerful agents to support our bodies - protecting against environmental threats, soothing sore muscles, calming our emotions and so much more.
One essential oil can contain hundreds of different chemical compounds, which together create a unique balance and synergistic effect that allow us to use essential oils with rarely any side effects, when used responsibly.
